Epimeleia
What if the most important technology for surviving the future is something we already know how to do: keep things working?
In the fire summer of 2026, three women meet almost by accident.
Luc a Sanz is a twenty-two-year-old agronomy student from Arag n who wants solutions that can begin before another shepherd leaves the valley. Dr Amalia Antilef, a Mapuche-Chilean-Qu b coise ecologist, has spent her career resisting the idea that knowledge can simply be lifted from one landscape and installed in another. Camille Delaunay works inside the French state, where every problem eventually becomes a category, a budget line and a measure of success.
A leaking trough, an inaccessible water point, an overheated school and a railway that works perfectly on either side of a border begin to reveal the same problem: modern societies are remarkably good at funding emergencies-and much less good at sustaining the ordinary human work that prevents them.
Over the next twenty-four years, the three women help build another way: one that connects livelihood, ecological limits, local knowledge, public finance, maintenance and succession.
Then, in 2050, the fires return.
The institutions they created are still standing. The dashboards are green. The contracts have been completed.
And something essential has disappeared.
To protect what they built, Camille, Amalia and Luc a must confront a harder question than climate change itself: Can care be institutionalized without the institution eventually replacing the people, knowledge and relationships it was created to preserve?
EPIMELEIA is a standalone novel in the ANAKYKLOSIS series: a research-grounded work of literary systems fiction about climate resilience, female friendship, political power, Indigenous and local knowledge, and the quiet work that allows one generation to leave something usable to the next.
