Coastal structures differ from others in terms of the forces they are exposed to, which must be taken into consideration throughout the designing and implementation processes. In addition, they differ in terms of the environmental factors that usually affect the construction materials themselves, and the precautions that must be considered while using the different materials in coastal constructions. Multiple powers affect coastal structures, and they are difficult to be measured precisely. So, the application of engineering theories is not enough to design such structures. The designer must conduct a thorough in-depth study of the existing structures, considering all the factors and methods used in their design. S/he should also consider the reasons that led to the destruction of previous structures.
