Engineering Biological Systems: Biochemical and Bioprocess Engineering

Engineering Biological Systems: Biochemical and Bioprocess Engineering outlines the application of engineering principles to microbial and mammalian systems, with an emphasis on design and analysis of biological manufacturing processes. The book provides details on enzyme kinetics and technology, microbial systems for the production of chemicals and biologics, downstream processing of biological materials and design examples. It includes technoeconomic analysis of biological processes and case studies for both established and proposed products. The new edition includes recent advances in systems and synthetic biology, vaccine production and enzyme evolution. It also includes a historical perspective on the development of industrial applications of biotechnology. Each chapter contains relevant problems with a solutions manual available to instructors. It contains an outline of undergraduate and graduate course materials for engineering students in biologically focused areas. It also serves as a reference for researchers in bioengineering and biotechnology.
