An extremely helpful & informative book with amazing impact.

Colleen Sundermeyer has written an insightful book about how people with eating disorders relate to themselves and to their food. After 30 years of battling with binging, purging & starving, I think I can safely say that this author knows what she's talking about. Not only were my feelings validated by her observations, but she also gave extremely helpful information about how my body utilizes food. For the first time in my life, I feel that I truly understand how how my emotions came into play in trapping me in an unhealthy pattern of binging, guilt, purging & food restriction. While reading ( & rereading) the book, I highlighted the items I want to incorporate into my search for wellness and created a to-do list which is tremendously helpful to me. I am beginning to trust myself with decisions about food, & I'm confident I'm on the road to recovery. Thank you Dr. Sundermeyer!

homes in on the fact that a good self-image is essential

This is a deceptively powerful book, I say deceptive because the way it was written could actually mask it's important message. The author really homes in on the importance of a good self-image and positive feelings. Without these no other change would be lasting. I really got that by the end of the book. I also liked her stress on the need for patience and on understanding the body and its needs. The only criticisms I have are that the way it was written was not very clear. More structure would have been helpful. Also the author keeps saying 'you must' and 'you should' which is the kind of thinking one is trying to get away from in the first place. Also I would have appreciated more on how to express feelings and their consequences or not.
