"Elephant People"

To those interested (as we all should be) in stories that tell heartfelt emotional truths, "Elephant Girl" is the perfect read. Graphically illustrated, fast-paced, the book exposes the often ignored exploitations of both humans and animals -- in this case -- a girl and an elephant -- a symbiotic relationship of extraordinary revealation.

Highly recommended!

Elephant Girl is done wonderfully and any animal lover/elephant lover should read this. It also makes a great gift! The story is exciting and it's hard to put the book down, you just want read and read!

Wonderful Book!

Elephant Girl is a brilliant graphic novel - it's amazing how the drawings convey so much emotion with just a line. Shashi and Kala are loveable characters and it's a true pleasure to watch their growth and deepening love. The story is intensely moving as we learn about the plight of elephants in captivity, and about human trafficking through Shashi's determination to create a better life. I would recommend this book highly to anyone and in fact plan to give it as gifts to friends who will enjoy it as much as I did. You will be moved and enlightened by this book.

An intriging book about humans and elephants

This graphic novel is very touching and beautiful. This author does not sugarcoat any of the details of either character, and even though it hurt my heart, I think it is important that both characters do not live "happily ever after" at the end of the tale. The image of the elephant sinking in the water is beautiful and I loved the way they reminisced about their adventures together before their last walk. It reminds me of the pointlessness of forcing elephants out of their natural habitat to do menial tricks for human amusement. Who could think we have the right? This book does a great job of making that point. Hall does a great job of bringing two characters to life and honestly portraying these two interlinked issues of species slavery. Many people do not understand the suffering elephants undergo at the hands of humans, and this book can help elucidate that terrible and horrific fact. I was vested in the characters from the beginning, and I feel for that little elephant in the book. I'll always remember her. And I highly recommend this book for anyone with paired interests in human and animal rights, graphic novels, and love for animals.
