Return to the scene of the crime in Elementary: The Second Season, with all 24 gripping episodes collected on for the first time on DVD in this 6 disc collection. Jonny Lee Miller returns in this modern-day take on Sherlock Holmes, the dangerously eccentric consulting detective who's addicted to impossible cases. Lucy Liu stars as Dr. Joan Watson, his "sober companion" turned partner in detection. Together, they take on some of the strangest crimes New York has ever seen as they assist the police in uncovering clues that unlock the city's sinister secrets. Only to the very sharpest minds do the incredible solutions seem elementary.
Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) use forensic medicine and deductive reasoning to detect the perpetrators of exotic, elaborate crimes that usually end up with a dispatch or two.
This is a fun whodunit series. It would have worked better if they had not used the Sherlock Holmes and Watson gimmick. It is fun in its own right. Instead of trying to make a period piece, this is a much more contemporary whodunit.
For the most part, the clues are laid out in time for you to say that "the Butler did not pop out of the closet at the last minute to do the killing." Occasionally, they have to stretch a few things to make the plot work, but nothing too exotic. For example, in one case, a person has been dead for years, and when found, has a safety deposit box key; what bank lets you keep a safety deposit box for years without paying?
In any event, the acting is fun, and the environment gives you a realistic feel. I am not too enamored with some of the background music.
You should give the series a try.
