I can't believe nobody reviewed this yet!

I guess they're too busy reading it. I have many books on Egypt and this is by far my favorite. I am somebody who believes books should be both informative AND have stunning visuals. It's very hard to get interested in an ancient civilization, or have it be brought to life in your mind, without being immersed in its art and architecture. This book does indeed have both a wealth of valuable and diverse information, and many, many beautiful color photos that bring the text to life. It has an extensive list of deities, their symbols, their cult centres, their myths, and their functions. What I found particularly interesting is that this book puts each of the myths within historical and cultural context, helping you understand how its symbolism was significant to the ancient Egyptians. The book also has plenty of information about pharaohs, temples, priests, and magic/ritual.The Egyptians did not have a morbid fascination with death. They loved life, and wanted it to last all eternity!
