At less than the cost of an office co-pay, it's definitely worth it!

I have eczema, and this is the best book to come along on the subject! I have gone from relapses to remissions and back countless times. I was working harder and harder to keep my skin under control. What I wasn't doing was working smarter. That's because I didn't know, and no one told me, that the more you know about eczema, the better your skin does. I used to visit the doctor each time my skin acted up, and get a prescription, only to return a few months later. My doctor didn't have time to teach me. In this book, I not only learned about the science (without the hype) surrounding eczema, I learned practical day-to-day tips on keeping me and my home healthy. From daily skin care, to managing flares, to preventing flares and dealing with insurance companies. From what cosmetics and creams to use, and what to throw away (and I've thrown a lot away). From what works, and what doesn't to the latest research, this book covers a broad spectrum. The only change I would recommend for future editions is more illustrations of the rash. This book has more useful information in it than all the visits I've made to the dermatologist combined! At less than the cost of a co-pay, it's definitely worth it! I use it as a reference that I go back to again and again. I am asking my library to stock it, and I'm recommending it to everyone I know who has eczema!

Terrific book! Highly recommended.

This book did a wonderful job of answering all my questions about eczema. It' s divided into sections on the science of eczema, what you can do to make your home more livable (perfect, since I'm remodeling now), self care for adults and kids, the psychology of eczema and future research. There is nothing in this book that isn't backed up with facts. It's a clear compendium that belongs in any household where someone suffers from eczema. I highly recommend it!

Wonderful book! Great hints and great resources.

I haven't found a book on eczema like this one! It answered all my questions (what causes it, how one gets it, what works, what doesn't work, etc). And it did so in a clear, easy-to-read way. Even the scientific chapters on skin anatomy and biology were fascinating. More than educating me about eczema, the book made me better able to get the most out of my visit to the doctor's office, where there just isn't the time to go into all the detail found here. After reading this book, I knew enough to ask the right questions in the office, and got the help I needed without feeling like I was wasting a visit. I'm telling all my friends about this book, so they can share it with anyone who has eczema.

Terrific book! It answered all my questions.

This is a terrific book! Eczema runs in my family, and I've had it for years. We've had lots of family lore about its causes and ways to treat it. It turns out that we've been completely wrong. This book explains what eczema is, how you get it, and what makes it tick. Being knowledgeable about eczema ends up being over half the battle. The author then goes on to give advice on taking care of eczema, from home remedies to the latest medical therapies. The treatment section is no-nonsense and practical. The gimmicks and myths are exposed. There's also a wonderful set of chapters devoted to children. I highly recommend this book and like it so much I've already sent copies to all adult my relatives with eczema and to two who have children with eczema.

Chock full of wonderful, practical advice!

I have dealt with eczema for a long time, and I haven't found a better book on the subject. The author really goes into the science of eczema in great detail. He clearly explains what causes itching and what causes the rash. He gives marvelous, and amazingly simple, advice on preventing flares based on the latest science, not based on isolated reports. Unlike other books, which promise magic cures, this book takes a clear-eyed view of eczema and goes into detail on what works, and what doesn't work. The author talks about practical home treatments, natural therapy, medical therapy, and how to deal with eczema at home, at school, and in the workplace. There's a great section for parents who have kids with eczema. I've learned more about eczema reading this book than I have in years of visits to the doctor's office. This book absolutely belongs in the home of anyone who has eczema or anyone caring for someone with eczema. It is a must have!
