Dwight Lightheart and the Terrible Tournament

Dwight Lightheart lives in the Kingdom of Plethora, a land where the people worship a multitude of different gods. But Dwight believes only in the Lord, a deity known solely to him. Naturally, his family deems him crazy.

His life is forever changed, however, when Queen Liandra mandates that he and eleven other individuals participate in a perilous tournament. The victor will be rewarded with great power and prestige. Problem is, he's a terrible fighter, the Queen hates him, and her Royal Priest seems to want him dead.

Only the Lord can save him now.

A Fun, Engaging Read

Here's one book I hope becomes a regular series, as it has much potential. The story revolves around a boy named Dwight who suddenly finds himself ordered to participate in a dangerous tournament. His family, the contestants, and even the Queen figure he's doomed. But Dwight's one hope also serves as the book's most compelling element: He believes in the "Lord," a deity long forgotten by his society. Why does Dwight believe in this entity when no one else is even aware of its existence? Could this "Lord" actually be real? Part of the book's fun is the (partial) unraveling of this mystery. Enigmas aside, however, the story is simply a pleasure to read. Filled with adventure, likable characters, dastardly villains, romance, and a surprising amount of wacky humor, most fans of fantasy will enjoy this title. It's also the perfect pick-up-and-read book, as the chapters are short and fast-paced. On the downside, the book is rather short--most readers will blow through this adventure in a couple of sittings. Very attentive readers might also detect minor grammatical errors occasionally sprinkled within the text, although they don't detract from the overall enjoyment of the story and will probably go unnoticed by most. Christian Fiction is woefully lacking in the number of quality fantasy tales available to young adults. Dwight Lightheart helps fill this void a bit, and perhaps, if enough people enjoy and support the book, it may one day become an ongoing series. Definitely recommended.

OUTSTANDING!

This book is perfect for young adults. This book was an easy read, entertaining, and had a spiritual message.
