Book Overview

Sorry. The single word was written on a mirror. In front of it hung the Minneapolis Internal Affairs cop. Was it suicide? Or a kinky act turned tragic?Either way, it wasn't murder. At least not... This description may be from another edition of this product.

A great Read!

I always look forward to new Heather Graham novels. I normally dont pay full-price for books but she is one of the FEW authors I can't wait for it to show in a used book store. Her combination of suspense, paranormal, and love combined is just what I LOVE.

Book 1 Nice start/Familiar characters

If you've read previous supernatural romance books by Heather Graham, you may be excited to know that she's bringing many characters back with new purpose! This book starts out and ends with a first person narrative by a new character: Scott Bryant. He has a moment of heroism that changes his life forever. He, and two other "earth signs" must band together to protect the world and complete a task that might otherwise lead to the appocalypse. Another "earth sign", Melanie crosses paths with Scott as they are both out after an earthquake trying to help some people against would-be robbers/looters and rapists. Melanie is a member of the Alliance which is a sect of good Vampires from Ms. Graham's previous books. Another member is her dinnermate: Maggie (Beneath A Blood Red Moon (Zebra romantic suspense)) and we quickly see the entrance of Lucian, king of the good vampires (When Darkness Falls). Lucian also crosses paths with Scott, though in a strange dream about an oracle that is calling Scott to her. A trip to Rome where Scott and Melanie become entangled in their crossed destiny, entrance of Rainier (a vampire in the Alliance like Melanie who seems familiar as if he's been in another of Ms. Grahams books though as a secondary character perhaps) the third "earth sign" and time to fight the minions of hell. Some of the characters we see brought back, just in this book are Maggie and Sean (Beneath A Blood Red Moon (Zebra romantic suspense), and Lucian and Jade (When Darkness Falls) with a hint in the letter from the author that more characters are yet to return in upcoming novels in the series. For a moment, this almost seemed like it would go along the path of "The DaVinci Code" but it played away from that pretty quickly while maintaining the undertone of religious tolerance and misinterpretation. It is almost more like having angels and demons (vampires) fighting side by side as equal parts of a societal circle. Overall, I was intrigued with the depth of the background information and enjoyed the book thoroughly. I look forward to the next three in the series.

good read

I read this book in 2 days. It is more faith, good vs evil based then it is relg. type based. I will be sure to check out her next book. Even tho I sometimes like the end time type of books, there have been to many of them. This is loosely that but more faith based on all relg's, not any one.

A promising start

This is the first Heather Graham novel I have read. It is the first in a new series by the author and holds a lot of promise. It does suffer a little bit by having to set up the upcoming adventure, but look upon that as the first act of a play. She creates a lot of characters that are interesting. The story starts off with a bang, or more properly a quake. The two lead characters are thrust into this story without fully understanding their role. It is their journey both in mental/emotional growth as well as where in the world it takes them that forms this story. If you like stories with good characters in a plot ripe with paranormal influences, you will like this story.

Entertaining Paranormal adventure/romance from Heather Graham

This book reminds me of why I enjoy Heather Graham - when she does it right, she really hits it on the head. In this book, an unlikely group of people are brought together to try to stop the Apocalypse - Scott, a regular guy, finds himself possessed of super-human strength. He then ends up with Melanie Regan and her friend Ranier who - at first - seem reluctant to allow him to help them at all. However, they are all called to find a mysterious Oracle, who will provide them with the information they require in order to stave off the Apocalypse. There are a lot of threads running through this book, and it turns out most of these characters turn up in other books - if you have read the other books, then you likely know the secrets behind the characters. I had not, so it was all new to me and I will not reveal the secrets here so as to avoid spoilers for those who come into this blind like I did. It is not necessary to have read the other books to understand this one - I just believe it might provide more information about the character backgrounds, so I'll likely look them up. At any rate, this is a very entertaining, well-written paranormal alternate-reality/fantasy book with romance and I enjoyed it a great deal (despite the romance *laugh*). I have almost always enjoyed Ms. Graham's books that included paranormal aspects, so this just fits right in. Definitely give this a look if you are a fan of the genre or the author. You won't be disappointed.
