Variety of uses - art therapy, psychology, education, school teacher/counselor, self-help

I first discovered Ethel Johnson through a therapist who integrates a great deal of art therapy in his practice. You can Google this subject to find out other ideas of how to integrate these concepts into your particular profession (whether it's psychologist/psychiatrist, school teacher/school counselor, alternative healer, or just self-help/self-healing). Here, Ethel Johnson lays out her theory of drawing a tree, and the various symbols therein. For me, the best feature about this book is that it is very practical and extremely user friendly. Anybody can pick it up and start using it immediately. The first two chapters are analysis, but they are both precise and concise - you do not get bogged down in theory or abstract discussions. The layout has a simple elegance - the book contains about 50-75 drawings of trees, with Ethel's comments next to them. And you will be deeply surprised at how a simple drawing will reveal your hidden past, unhealed hurts, your views of life, how open you are to relationships/commitment, etc.
Wonderfully Enjoyable!

I've had this book for years. I knew Ethel and hearing her talk about the book and the trees was wonderful. Looking at the trees done by the celebrities was a great treat! My suggestion... draw your own trees with your family BEFORE you read the book. Drawing it after is just cheating and not as much fun.
