Will Jayd Ever Be Happy With a Man?

From the author of The Fight and Second Chance comes the third installment of the Drama High series. Jayd's Legacy features Jayd Jackson as the sassy, independent and high spirited teen who was born into a family of women with highly attuned spiritual gifts. Jayd, a teen born with a "gift of sight" is a leader in her group of friends, a member of the Drama Club and a young woman the boys can't get enough of. Always striving to listen to both her grandmother Mama's pearls of wisdom and her own inner voice, Jayd struggles to avoid the family curse of having troublesome relationships with the men in her life. This YA novel reminds you of how "grown" today's teens truly are. The novel also introduces young readers to aspects of spirituality and religion many young people may not be aware of. DuEwa M. (RAW Rating: 3.5) - Drama Queen

As DRAMA HIGH: Jayd's Legacy opens, the students of South Bay High are preparing for their homecoming. There is a lot of excitement surrounding this year's festivities because Jayd's best friend, Nellie, has been selected to run for homecoming court. If elected, she will be the first African-American homecoming queen, which is making quite a few of the students unhappy. Although Jayd is in the midst of her interracial relationship with Jeremy, the racial climate at the school is not the greatest. Jayd has to protect Nellie from a troubling vision she has about the homecoming celebration, and also has to deal with Nellie's super-sized ego. On the personal side, Jayd is disappointing her grandmother because she is neglecting her rich spiritual ancestry and the lessons she is being taught. Lessons that can help her make decisions concerning her own relationships. When an old lover from her past, who can potentially cause problems for her and Jeremy, is thrust back into her life, will she wise up and learn to call on the legacy within to aid her? This is the third installment in the Drama High series. Divine manages to capture the essence of teen spirit regarding the things they are interested in. She brings to life the world of Jayd and all her friends and family. I found myself growing impatient with Jayd's character in this volume because she has to constantly be drilled with the same things over and over. Nevertheless, it is a fun read. The novels in the series are written in sequential order, so readers will have to pick up the previous books to catch up. I recommend this for fans of young adult fiction.
