Dragon Along

Sometimes, the promise of a different story doesn't quite go the way you planned.

After the adventure of a lifetime and hatching a dragon of his own, Camar in promises his mother that they won't be forced on the same journey his sister embarked on. That pledge appears to have happened a bit too literally: for as much as Camar in's hatchling Br an loves to sit and read with him, they share neither the Bond nor the friendship that Camar in's sister had with her dragon.

When his grandparents invite the family to their new home outside the capital city of M r, Camar in thinks the extent of his new story is getting rid of the belligerent gnome that has taken up residence in his grandparents' bathroom. At least, until the gnome forms an instant rapport with Br an that leaves Camar in flummoxed-and also quite jealous.

If Camar in is to discover why he cannot form a Bond with his new dragon, he must navigate the strange webs of M r spun by a secret scholarly society, a band of fae hunters, tourists taking up too much space, and the banned books section at the local library.

Evidently, the days of bonding over books and a cuppa have yet to make their way to the land of N ra.

A fun and whimsical tale!

I really enjoyed Upscaled and so it is fun to see another book coming out about the return of the Dragons of Nóra, this time with Camaráin and the egg that he took. As Camaráin promised to his mother, it is a different story than what happened with his sister. Yes, you still have the Inquisitors but now they are in different jobs, some with better success than others. And of course there may be more foul mouthed gnomes but it was fun to travel down south to visit Camaráin's grandparents. Lots of hijinks there with Camaráin and his dragon, Brian (who loves to read just as much as Camaráin). There are new characters, including a selkie plus a band known as the Fae Smashers to watch out for. It is a fun whimsical silly adventure with a bit of danger, but more puns than danger, a good message about choosing families, even if there is no bond, and a happy ending for all who deserve it, and possible career changes for those who have learned their lesson! I enjoyed this quick fun read and look forward to hopefully seeing more stories about the Dragons of Nóra and the changes needed to make that land a good place again!
