Internationally acclaimed clinical nutritionist Dr. Gillian McKeith introduces readers to the many health benefits of eating living foods, especially "raw" enzyme-rich living foods. These unprocessed, whole superfoods, sprouts, grains, seeds, sea vegetables, algae and others, are packed with vital nutrients our bodies depend on to carry out various physiological functions. The Living Food Program outlined in this book makes it easy to avoid the processed and overly cooked foods that contribute to poor health.
Anything written by Gillian McKeith is worth reading, IMHO. She makes a great point that we need to eat 'living' foods as when the food is heated (too long) or frozen, the life is taken out of it, so to speak. Glad I heard of Gillian while channel surfing and came across "You Are What You Eat" on BBCAmerica as this little woman has totally changed the way I see the relationship of food and my health. As Gillian says, "You really are what you eat ... and absorb". Good book.
Good Sense is always ridiculed

I am purchasing this book as a guide to quantities and uses of the referenced foods. I live in a small, rural town and often many foods are not stocked in our grocers. However, 6 of the 12 foods recommended I have used or have seen locally. In a larger city with health food stores and larger fresh markets, the rest should be easy. As far as cost - two bags of potato chips can set you back nearly $7 and look at the nourishment they provide. I Looked up the nutrient value on each item listed. Amazing. Anyone with commen sene would realize that these foods are healthy and beneficial.I'm beweildered as to the negative review here - "probably a sham", "questionable credentials", etc.? The only severe critics of Dr. McKeith (academic degree, not medical) that I found on the Net are MD's. Since when do they support anyone that's not a fellow "doctor"? It's only recently that physicians have even recognized nutrition as a preventive health venue. Dr. Dean Ornish was scoffed at on public television when he presented dietary changes in heart patients and diabetics. The panel of physicans said their patients would never comply and it's easier to prescribe drugs. And now, 20 years later what is the name of the game? Healthy diets! Give me a fresh salad over a pill any day! Wake up non believers. Burning witches on hearsay is supposed to be over. I like her t.v. show, too. It was quite a wake-up call.
Great book for food buying

This book gives you clear and concise instructions on what foods to buy, what combinations to buy, and what foods to avoid. While some of the foods may be a tad difficult to acquire, most stores have the majority of foods she recommends. This is not a diet book. This is a book that makes you look at food as fuel rather than comfort or rewards.
