For a young romance novel, I must say that "Downtown Boy", by Laura Battanyi-Petose, is a fairly well-done representation of the genre. Nice, suburban girl meets "dangerous" downtown boy and sparks immediately fly. Yet, the real charm of the story is not merely the teenage romance, but rather the evolving relationships between the heroine and her mother, her best friend, and her babysitting client as a result of her new and different "Downtown Boy". Another good point of the book is its references to current popular music; Battanyi-Petose will certainly score big with young readers of current popular culture
