This book is incredible. I expected a lot, based on information I read and heard before I read the book. I was not disappointed. The story was terrific, the character development outstanding, and the suspense titillating. Buy this book--you will not be disappointed.

I am an avid reader; just about a book a week and this is my top book of 2007. Chris creates very interesting characters with challenges that are similar for each of them. He keeps you riveted to the page with twists and turns throughout the novel. It is a book that doesn't give away the plot until you read it and finally begin to realize in the last 20 pages. Let's hope he turns another one out soon
A real page-turner

Chris Beakey has written a taut, thought-provoking, downright scary book. The twists and turns keep one guessing right up to the end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good "who-done-it" with a moral message. This may be Mr. Beakey's first novel, but I'm sure it won't be his last.
Fantastic read - couldn't put it down

I literally could not put this book down - I'm not usually one for reading a ton of mysteries and thrillers, but this book captivated me from the first chapter. As others have noted, the writing is tight with enough information so that you can really get to know the characters, but without letting you lose interest for a minute. And the twists and turns are constant and always unexpected - I was shocked by the ending and gasped out loud more than once. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read - my only suggestion is to make sure you have enough time to really sit down with it for while because once you start, it will be VERY hard to put it down.
A Taut Read

This is a great suspense novel. It has the horror of a gruesome murder as the hook, and interesting characters that drive the action. But what makes it great are the plot twists and turns that you never see coming. More than once I found myself exclaiming out loud. The writing is also tight with not a sentence wasted on unecessary background. At the same time, it is not trite nor superficial. For those of us who read mysteries to master our own fears, this book ranks up there with Greg Iles as 'our worst fears' sort of experience. And the ending is a real hummdinger.
