This is really “Computers for Dummies" in disguise.

The cover is "DOS for Dummies”; however, on further inspection, you will find it also describes how indirect hardware, modems, dealing with diskettes, dealing with databases, using MS backup, and the differences between the different DOS types. It may be a tad hard to apply, as this was published in 1998. It may be older than most programmers. Still, it makes for a good historical background. Take care to notice the versions of this book.

It's A Dummie (What's more to say)

Dummies books are written for the rest of us. On the DOS side of things. This book is a reference without spending a lot of money and without all the mumbo-jumbo. Just the stuff you need without the technical words. I have other Dummies computer books and ther great as well. Well worth the price. I went to school for this sort of thing. I keep Dummies books handy for a quick reference. When I get a phone call 9 times out of 10 I'm reading a dummies book. With that said this and other Dummies books are great.

A Classic

Not so long ago most people did not know how to use a computer. Dan Gookin's "DOS for Dummies" stepped us through the hills and vales of how to use one. For this alone the book deserves respect. A very short while ago, a computer professional said to me, "For that I generally go to DOS and use 'XCOPY'." Anyone remember what that means? "DOS for Dummies" will tell you.

The dummy books are the "cliff notes" of computing.

-----DOS for dummies is the most helpful computer guide I have ever laid my brown eyes apon. It has everything from turning on the computer to editing you configuration files. It has several jokes about PC's and even some cartoons! Whether you just got your computer yesterday or you MAKE computers this book is helpful. In the front it has some cheat sheets and quick refrence guides that are really helpful. I have had this book for 2 years now and still find myself reading it. -----So even if you don't plan on spending time in DOS (which you always end up doing anyways) GET THIS BOOK!!!!
