Doreen And Wilbur: A romance

Doreen & Wilbur is an atmospheric mystery and slow-burn romance set in the lean, shadowed years of post-World War II England.

In a tiny, bypassed Yorkshire hamlet where time seems to stand still, two shy creatives-Doreen, a talented dress and hat designer, and Wilbur, a naive factoryengineer-are taking their first tentative steps toward love. But their quaint, tight-knit community hides dark secrets. When a local constable mysteriously vanishes, a green young officer fresh out of the academy is dispatched to investigate.

What he uncovers is a chilling pattern: another officer has already gone missing, and the last clue left behind is a single human bone discovered near the treacherous Yorkshire bogs.

Rich with immersive period detail, The Manhole Cover takes readers deep into the workings of a small village populated by a vibrant cast of characters-from the matchmaking baker Mrs. Mayweather to an aging barge-renter named Flint, and even a surprise visit from the Duke and Duchess of Kent. Yet, beneath the cobblestones lies the strangest secret of all: a mysterious manhole cover that seems to shift and appear at will, acting as a strange portal that subtly prods, interferes with, and upends the staid existence of the hamlet's residents.
