A BIG LEAGUE BOOK

I was a student at USC when the Dodgers played at the nearby L.A. Coliseum. My frat brothers and I would go over there and have a ball. When the team moved to Dodger Stadium, we'd make the short drive there via Sunset Blvd. and the sight of this spectacular arena was awe-inspiring, like the Hanging Gardens of Baylon or a Cecil B. DeMille movie set. DODGERS ESSENTIAL took me back in time to those nostalgic days and nights. It captured the glorious 1960s, which was such a great decade for me as well as for the Dodgers. As a California native, I completely agree with author Steve Travers's assessment that the arrival of the Dodgers and the building of Dodger Stadium made the city of L.A. and the Golden State truly "big league" in a way the movie industry could not do. The writing is fast-paced, jaunty and eminently readable. The author is a major talent with sports knowledge that is tremendous. I learned so much about the Dodgers, from Brooklyn to Vin Scully, and felt like I was in the dugout with Sandy, Don, Garv and Tommy!! Buy this book!
