This Bible Study starts with two lessons on the Bible itself covering the history, the books, the old, the new and the parts. The word of God has been preserved for over 2000 years and is vital to our salvation. Learning to Know the God of the Book starts with the book. You hear people say our church doesn't preach doctrine. A doctrine is defined as a body of beliefs and concepts, considered to be true, and thus worthy of acceptance. If a church doesn't preach doctrine what does it preach? What is it good for? Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tell of Jesus's birth, life, death and resurrection. The book of Acts is the history of what happened after Jesus died. Only in the book of Acts are we given the "doctrine" that Jesus defined to the Apostles, after He rose from the dead, and before He ascended into heaven. The book of Acts is the only place that explains the beginning of the church and it is our guideline as what Jesus expected of each of us. Peter preached the first message on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. The first 9 chapters of Acts records what the Apostles preached.
