Divorce in Iran

The aim of this study is to identify possible causes of the widespread phenomenon of divorce in Iranian, urban, post-revolutionary society. Firstly, the current legal framework governing family law is explained in detail; subsequently, the study examines divorce law and the issue of the bride price in greater depth. Subsequently, data relating to couple relationships, derived from interviews with divorced Iranian couples, will be analysed. To complement this, articles from the journal Ḫanevāde-ye Sabz will be examined. Finally, possible hypotheses regarding the causes of divorce will be put forward.
