Very often when people divorce, parents inadvertently forget the children's feelings. They don't always understand what is going on and have a tendency to somehow feel they are to blame or that their parents will no longer love them. There are many things, oftentimes incorrect, that float through their minds. This book sensitively discusses what a divorce or separation is, and what to expect. Each family situation is different, but there are many similarities and this book discusses them. The chapters include: Separation and Divorce Separation Getting a Divorce Living Apart Is It My Fault? Do My Parents Still Love Me? How Does It Feel When Your Parents Break Up? Feeling Sad or Angry Feeling Alone Getting Help Accepting Change New Families New Beginnings Getting Through Your Parents' Separation or Divorce This book is very well written and does not talk down to children. It is very sensitive and acknowledges the fact that it is a very difficult time for everyone. The book is realistic and clearly states things such as "You may still secretly hope that your parents will get back together someday. Unfortunately, hoping will not make it happen." There are many photographs of children and families who are visually expressing their emotions. In the back of the book is an index, a glossary and additional recommended book resources. This book would be an excellent choice for library, classroom or guidance office shelves.
