Very good read

I highly recommend Desperate Houselies to both single and married women. It's a clear, concise, and practical book on the seven lies that subtly lead women beyond the boundaries of their marriages. Each chapter focuses on a specific lie/myth, with illustrative examples of real women who have fallen for the myth. However, instead of holding these women as examples to be mocked, Sally Marcey treats each example with respect and compassion. Not only does she give a factual rendering of their experience, but she also writes about their thought processes and rationale as they are going through the experience. In this way, Ms. Marcey bridges the gap between "head knowledge" (from the psychological/therapist perspective) and "heart knowledge" (from the women's perspective). She gives a human face to each lie, showing how easily just about anybody can be fooled. The book is nicely balanced between compassion for those who have caught themselves in these circumstances and an unflinching look at the mistakes they made to arrive at these circumstances. Most especially nice about the book is how she ties in the biblical principles of marriage to each myth, showing how the lie subtly distorts the realities and sanctity of marriage and yet draws the reader back to how the biblical principles can be used as a foundation to recovering from infidelity if both parties are willing. At the end of each chapter, she provides a list of "Take Action" items for the reader to reflect and possibly act upon, making the book extremely practical and down-to-earth. Her commitment to showing the dangers, consequences, and realities of these myths from a biblical perspective is truly refreshing and needed in these confused times. The concluding chapter, aptly titled, "Hold on to Hope" provides wisdom straight from the bible and encouraging words of God's forgiveness and mercy. Strangely enough (or else it is divinely appointed timing), she wrote the final chapter on Good Friday, reinforcing the unwavering Easter message of hope that we can cling to in times of distress. As I write this review, it is the week of Good Friday and the Easter message of hope has not altered. Read the book and be encouraged.
