Pictures Speak Louder Than Words

I wasn't sure I needed another design history book when I made this purchase, but after reading only one chapter I knew that I did. If you are looking for facts and dates, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for historical and socialogical summaries of this century's design periods it is very well written. But the narrative portion of this book is not what sold me on keeping it. It was the choice of artwork and photos. Whether you are a design student learning technique or a professional with a creative block, this book has a wonderful selection of renderings to refer to. Done by the best, I found myself spending much more time admiring the details in the workmanship of these masters than I did reading why they designed what they designed. A frivolous but worthwhile purchase.
