an extra star for humor...lol

"psychotherapist Chris Cameron was devastated by the murder of her partner, Robyn" ...and sleeping with not one but two women to help her forget, it seems. Well, until she met the very hot cop.... I expected a typical romance and that would have gotten it three stars. Because it is an interesting romance, if a little heavy on the sage burning and spirit guides for my taste. And some of the political comments....Fox News compared to the Nazi? Oh, get real! Hearing some things you don't agree with does not make the speaker a Nazi. Still, it is very well written, an interesting premise, and a rather surprising incident at the end. But what got it the fourth star was the humor. There is a scene in the middle of the book that I found just so funny, I was laughing and laughing. And that is certainly worth another star! hmmm...let's see what else Ms. Tyler has written...

SHOULD NOT be limited to 'lesbian fiction'

If you are tired of female protagonists who are idiotically impulsive, co-dependent, and inevitably rescued by men they love to hate, you will love the women in this book. It is character, not plot, driven. I was irrationally angry when the book ended, and wished that Chris and Linda were my neighbors. Thanks be that they continue to thrive in sequels. A well-written multi-level book filled with curious, interesting women finding and recognizing their pathways in the world in community with their friends.

Great characters

I loved the characters in Descanso! They were very real and distinctly individual. Great description...I could picture each and every setting of the main character, whether home or work or out in the desert. Also loved the hilarious commentary about society, pop culture, etc. Overall, very enjoyable read.

Intelligent and Funny, An Irresistible Combination.

I couldn't put this book down. Anyone up for a change in lesbian fiction will devour this novel for its humor, warmth, intelligence, and its impervious peep at cultural absurdities. In her succinct and subtle style, Tyler gets to the heart of everyday matters through delectable characters who are (thankfully) over the age of 35. Part mystery, part romance, part social commentary, this novel is skillfully crafted with psychological, spiritual, political, and sensual elements. I hope to see more from this writer!
