Historical Story of the Gullah slaves and their white family on the Weldon Oaks Plantation in the se

This is an interesting , well researched set of 5 books , which can be read individually or as a set by noted author Jean E Holmes. It is about the Gullah people who are slaves in the south Sea islands off the coast of South Carolina. Interesting but the Gullah people are real and many still live in that area today. My favorite Character is Ma'am Beezie who is a good, kind old black woman who prays and uses herbal medicine. She has crippled granddaughter Angel whom she has raised from an infant. She works for the Gilbert Weldon Oaks plantation in the South Carolina Low Country. Gilbert is very kind to his slaves and takes good care of them. His two children Gillie is best friends with a salve boy his age named Zach. His daughter Laura Mae is best friends with the black slave child Angel.Gilbert decides that it will do no harm to educate Angel who is crippled with his daughter Laura May whom he has hied a tutor for.The civil War is ready to break out.It is 1860 and Gilberts decision may well save his families lives when war breaks out. This is a most interesting historical book and series. be read individually or as a series of five.
