In Jeremiah's time the book of Deuteronomy was rediscovered and read before the people. Jeremiah tried to warn the king and people of Jerusalem of impending doom that was coming based on his understanding of the book of Deuteronomy. Unfortunately, they did not heed the word of God... God wants us to read, understand, and apply all His words, all His commandments, and all His statutes to both the free choices we have before us and decisions we make in our daily lives. If we do not seek a relationship with God through his son Jesus Christ, the curses Jeremiah spoke of in his time will become a very real part of our life and overtake us just as He predicted back then.
