Excellent Read

Excellent read, however, there were parts in the book that seemed to drag.(It could've been to fill space.) Other sections seemed repetitive and simply reworded what was already stated in previous chapters. Nevertheless, my applause to the author! My only regret is that I read "Deception" first, and I'll have to read the first book in the trilogy second. I'm anticipating the third/final work. I'm an avid reader, and I actively support African American writers, but the popular genre among many Black authors these days seems to be "blacksploitation"- books which I strictly avoid. "Deception" is a well-written, mature read. I even had to look up a word or two in the dictionary (lol). The typical stereotypes about African Americans (drug dealers, pimps, nymphomaniacs, money-hungry, hoochies, thugs, rap superstars, professional athletes with baby scandals) aren't in this one, and I commend the author for it. I'm a career woman, and I enjoy reading about educated Black men and women, who are cultured and intelligent. Montgomery's art is well-versed. I became so engrossed in "Deception", it slipped my mind that the main characters were Black, as it should with any novel. Selena Montgomery really comes through! It was money well spent.

Deception

Good sequel to Reckless. Can't wait to read the last book of the Faraday Trilogy.

Great Suspense, Wonderful Romance

Selena Montgomery has done it again! I don't know why she's not better known - her work is smart, well-plotted, tightly written and always a surprise. Deception tells the story of Fin and Caleb whose sleuthing carries the story of Kell, Fin and Julia to the next level. The mysterious group Stark is planning to strike again, and this time, only revealing the truth can save the Faraday Center and the lives of Fin's family. The ending is explosive, and I can't wait for book 3!

Deception: brilliant, action-packed and alluring

Montgomery's works create a hunger only her action-packed romances can sate. Deception, the second part of the Faraday saga, is no exception. The reader is taken on a path of scintillating romance and high flying adventure in small-town Georgia as Fin, Kell and Julia reunite to bring closure to their haunting past. Assisted by beautifully described men with secrets of their own, the group encounters crooked public servants and seemingly innocent townspeople living double lives. Facing constant danger and secrets of the past, the group finds love and answers in unexpected places. The writing is brilliant, witty and unique, much like the characters. Unexpected twists mixed with steamy, enthralling romance engage the reader in a way only Montgomery can. I deeply believe this is Montgomery's best work yet and cannot wait to see what's next.

action-packed romantic suspense

In Hallden, Georgia, Mrs. Faraday is accused of murder; leading poker player Fin Borders to return to her hometown to prove the charge is false and to uncover the real culprit. This is the one place she does not want to go to as her memories are overloaded with that brutal 1991 fiery incident that sent her and her other two orphanage musketeers, Kell and Julia, fleeing with a vow never to return. Like Kell (see RECKLESS), she is back. Undercover FBI special agent Caleb Matthews is also in Hallden seeking a killer; he has a history that he, like Fin, would prefer to ignore. When Fin and Caleb meet they each feel an attraction that somehow ignores their respective demons. The pair also realizes that they must trust the other to watch their back as a killer lurks and watches in case someone gets too close to the truth. DECEPTION is an action-packed romantic suspense thriller that sets the tone of the story line from the onset and never slows down afterward. The cast is strong as it brings to life small town Georgia even some players from the past and from beyond. However, the tale is owned by the feisty courageous yet vulnerable heroine who finds love with a person who calls her heart. With Julia's tale next, Selena Montgomery provides an exciting small-town Georgia thriller. Harriet Klausner
