I absolutely love this book! My nieces and nephews loved the animals and easily related to a few of the situations one might find themselves in on their first day of school. Our favorite part of the book was the last page! The author included an ACTUAL picture of the Zonky the book was based on. The kids just absolutely LOVED being able to see a REAL Zonky! They just talked and talked and talked about it! As an adult, I also really liked how the book explained that having two different breeds of parents didn't really make the Zonky that different from any of the other animals that had the same breed of parents. I could really see using this to explain an interracial family to other kids! A child with a white dad and a black mom isn't any different from another child with both black parents or both white parents! I would really love to see this book become a series with new adventures featuring the Zonky and her friends!!!
