Farewell

I hope this book becomes readily available online. I picked up my copy during my travel to New Delhi. Khushwant Singh, a well known journalist and author in India puts this book together as a homage to all those he had an opportunity to know during his illustrious career. He is a high profile writer which provided him with comforts of moving about in the upper crust of the Indian society. In this book he collects the obituaries he wrote for the political, intellectual, and social figures of India. This collection are not an excuse for drumming up their fabulous characters; infact, Singh speaks candidly of these people as humans. He includes their not so endearing quirks as he highlights their positive features. It is a two part book. The first part is a discussion of Death from a philosophical point of view. The second part is the collection of obituaries. For those who want to be introduced to that society of men and women who have in their way contributed to the design of upper crust social structure of India today, this is a great place to begin.
