Hans Harper (a construction worker) and his young daughter Holly, find themselves trapped in the Philippines following the Japanese bombing of Manila in December 1941. Holly finds herself coming of age while living with a group of Filipino Guerillas. Hans searches for Holly but finds himself interned in the infamous Santo Tomas Japanese prison camp. There he meets Ann Norris. A romance ensues as they attempt to survive death and starvation at the hands of the Japanese.
