This book is designed as an individual student workbook that includes space to record books read in a school year, as well as 20 graphic organizers, one for each directed reading-and-thinking activity. These activities are designed to increase comprehension and critical thinking skills for students in grade 2 - college. Each page in this book has a place for a student to write their name in case it is used as a master to be copied for one or more students as opposed to being used as a complete book for one student. The activities can serve as a springboard for a larger activity, reflection, or project. The activities are designed to enhance higher level thinking skills, as well as to prepare them for the thought processes required to do well on college entrance exams.Reading Record Pages: There are 3 pages to allow a student to record the books they read over the course of a school year. In traditional schools, students are no longer typically given the time to read many books. If you are homeschooling your child, or are in a school that allows time for reading, a child can typically read approximately 30 novels in one year. I once had a student read 49 books within the 36-week school year. The average student in grades 3 - 12 read twenty-four books. The reading record in this book was designed for the best practice of providing ample time for children to read literature in school. There are 20 unique activities in this book. Complete directions for each activity are included. The activities can be completed 1-1, small group, or whole class. The time required to complete each activities ranges from 20 minutes to an hour, on average.
