This author as far as i know has only written two books, this one and Wild Flower Wind - wish I could find more books from her.. she manages to create vulnerable heroines that have a backbone of steel - something that is very hard to find in romance books I have read recently. This book is another favourite of mine - Barrett's character is strong, throughout the book you can see his love for Caroline. The heroine is a good strong one and her love for her sister is touching. The Hero's character is what carries the book through to my list of favourites, as the background storyline of abuse pretty much NEEDS his love to show for this to succeed as a romance - without his obvious love for the heroine this book would have been another in a long line of flunks, as had his character been ruthless and cruel - with us playing guessing games as to what he would cruelly say to her next - I would just think the cycle of abuse continues.. I don't like abuse story lines that have H's who are in themselves abusive. From the Back: She would have done anything to get this job Caroline hadn't meant to deceive Barrett Rossiter into thinking she was married and had a child, but if that was the price she had to pay for the job she so desperately needed, she'd pretend to be anything. She had to support Stacy, and protect her at all costs. And she had to continue lying to Barrett, if only to prevent him from finding out the shameful truth about her private life....
