Daniel: Standing for God in the Face of Adversity

Daniel, a member of the tribe of Judah, was among the young men of the Jewish aristocracy who were taken captive to the pagan City of Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar in the first wave of the Babylonian exile. Along with three of his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, or as they were later named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Daniel was bound up and forced to leave his home in Judah.
The Book of Daniel shows us how to serve God faithfully while we are forced to live in a society that has drifted far away from God. Even though with our physical eyes, we cannot see any way to escape from the influence of sin and depravation that surrounds us, we should continue to stand strong, and persevere in faith that God is still in control. If we do that, the Lord will see to it that the day will come when we will be lifted up to new heights in the Kingdom of God.
