The stories in this collection, though fiction, made me feel like I was experiencing a part of this critical era that I had not known before. If you think you know WWII, check out this book. Teresa Funke explores the often overlooked or ignored contribution of women in an entertaining, compelling, and eye-opening way. The stories can be read independently, but they also compliment each other nicely to give a fuller view of the women of this generation. Great historical fiction!

Teresa Funke has captured the feelings of the women who were a part of the WWII time. I was most impressed with her stories. We have a picture of a soldier sketched by one of the artists with Disney. The stories bring feelings alive. Thanks Teresa.

In Dancing With Combat Boots Teresa Funke gives fresh insight into the lives of women who were impacted by World War Two. Many of the women depicted in her novel served in the armed forces during the war. Some dealt with the war's impact at home. All have a riveting tale about how the war changed the course of their lives. This is a must read for anyone interested in learning about true courage, strength and heroism off the battlefield. Each individual story is a compelling vignette of how these women's lives were shaped by the war, and how they confronted the challenges presented to them. Reading their stories was inspiring. The author does a superb job of presenting various viewpoints, and through them, giving the reader historical background that is both interesting and educational. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and find it to be suitable for classroom reading.
Wonderful Stories

Dancing in Combat Boots presents wonderful stories skillfully told about the role of women in World War II. Teresa Funke covers a remarkable range of perspectives including Red Cross Volunteers, Woman's Army Corps enlistees, Japanese internees and others. Ms. Funke paints a masterful portrait of women before, during, and after the war. In my mind she has created the flip side of Tom Brokaw's Greatest Generation.

Teresa Funke's first novel, "Remember Wake," was a good tale. "Dancing in Combat Boots" is a cut above. This short story collection is remarkable for its overall attention to craft and excellence. It's clear that the author invested sweat and passion in the topic (the role of women in World War II). The stories are based on actual case histories, so the tales ring true. What surprises is the quality of the prose. The author is authentic, original and altogether fresh. I highly recommend this book.
