Stock-car racing was dangerous, but that didn't deter Ralph Earnhardt. He could take a "raced out" car, rebuild it and make a winner out of it. He was a legend in the `50s and `60s and his son and grandson would be legends in their own time because racing was in their blood. When Dale Earnhardt Jr. was a youngster he had a hard time when his parents divorced and he didn't always get along with his dad. At that point in time the relationship was a bit iffy. There was a really weird waterskiing incident, but you'll have to read about it in this book. There was a reason Dale Sr. was called the "Intimidator!" Naturally everyone figured that because Dale Jr. had that "name" he would have a free ride into racing, but he was forced to go the "rags to riches" road and earn his own way. If he thought it was going to be easy to win races, he had to think again and later said, "It's funny. Before I actually became a race-car driver, I would watch Dad's races and would think that I knew exactly what he was doing and why he was doing it. Now that I'm out here and see what's going on, I realize I had no idea." Nope, he didn't! In this book you can read all about the highs and lows in Dale's life. This is a fun, basic overview of a legendary NASCAR driver, a man from a legendary racing family. It is well written with numerous color photographs, sidebars and a good index. Dale is one of many athletes in the New Wave series. Dale's "favorites" are even listed in here. Do you know what his favorite snack is? Mmmmmm!
