Great Classroom Read Aloud for Intermediate Students

After reading Cyon: Veritas over the Christmas holiday, I was inspired to begin reading it to my fifth grade students as a Teacher Read Aloud selection. The good morals and exposure to heroic characters, and the clear cut good versus and triumphs over evil, made the book an excellent selection for my students. We have just gotten to the adventures of Snaggletooth and Red, and the students are very interested in what the characters will do, and how they will get to the Veritas to save Cyon. Can they suceed? Of course, every child knows that true heroes must be at least somewhat sucessful, but the path that sucess takes is the proof of an excellent story that will linger in the memories of my students. They already want to know if there will be a "sequel". I certainly hope so! I highly recommend this book to classrooms, parents, and students. Enjoy! S. Simon, Instructor Davis Creek Elementary [...]
Cyon:Veritas

I truly enjoyed this Christian based fantasy novel. It is refreshing in the world we live in to see someone stand up for what is true and important. Dr. Manning has done a wonderful job of blending an entertaining story, accessible for all ages, with strong Christian beliefs and morals. C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien are smiling from their heavenly home! This would be a great book for mothers and fathers to read to their children. Also a great book for the teenager or young adult searching for a life's path. I strongly recommend this book and look foward to, hopefully, another installment of the adventures of Gus & Oslo.
Dogs Rule

This is a FUN, CLEVER, and CHARMING story of dogs and their adventures. Not in the sense of Call of the Wild, but more like Narnia. Maybe with a dash of Hornblower thrown in. When they make the animated movie, Harrison Ford and Matt Damon would be ideal choices for their association with adventure and action. This was a great read with my grandson who wanted me to read it everynight until we had finished it. Then I had to read it all over again. Then my other grand children in San Diego wanted copies too. It was a great Christmas gift.
