The proliferation of cyanobacteria in freshwater constitutes a major health issue, particularly when they affect resources intended for human consumption. This work presents the scientific basis regarding cyanobacteria, the factors favoring their development, and the main cyanotoxins described in the literature. It proposes an application to the Mexa dam, the main source of drinking water for the Annaba province, by analyzing the potential impact on tap water quality as well as the perception and consumption habits of users. Recommendations are formulated to strengthen health vigilance and improve communication regarding the risks associated with cyanobacteria.
