Here's a book that takes the philosophical challenge of building a creative environment in an organization and turns it into a practical, understandable approach that works. This book doesn't stop at... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is a wonderful, practical guide for building a more creative environment. He starts with the essential factors and ground rules for achieving creativity, such as: * Everyone is creative. * Be aware of your own defenses. * Keep it in the room: confidentiality counts. * Build on other's ideas. * Keep the energy up. * Stick to the problem/topic. * Keep it fun to keep it productive. * Embrace ambiguity. * Foster Constructive dissatisfaction. * Nothing "bad." He describes some great process tools to brainstorm and wraps them all up in "The Game" where the facilitator provides creative prompts to force new perspectives and new mind-sets. He lets you know how to set it up, what to be careful about and how to get the most out of the game.
Rousing Creativity Does...

I hate books on creativity. They can generally be summed up as long-winded restatements of "just be more creative" and are based on one or two catchy phrases. Worse, they don't seem to be very creative. Not so with Hurt's Rousing Creativity.I like this book. It's different from practically every other book on creativity I've read. Starting with a set of philosophical principals, Hurt's book focuses on what I can _do_ to be more creative. Once the principles are explained, he then goes on to provide a simple but complete toolbox for practical applications of the principles. I know, the other books give you things to do too, but this book gives them to you in the context of the underlying, fundamental principles, the theory behind Rousing Creativity. The philosophical depth of the simple principles set's Hurt's work apart. The book is not particularly long. It contains a lot to think about and a lot of forms and exercises to help in the work of creative problem solving. It challenges the reader to stop and think about personal beliefs, decisions and actions. I think this book will be a very valuable addition to the library of anyone who's work requires thinking and problem solving, or who wishes it did.Hurt leaves you with the idea that creativity is a way of looking at the world, a way of life, not a parlor trick or collection of buzz words. Get a copy of Rousing Creativity. Read it. Act on it. Rousing Creativity is more than just another book on creativity.

Rousing Creativity challenged me to question the status-quo.

Part 1 of Rousing Creativity not only challeged me to rethink the way I've always done things, it also gave me a realistic way to make NEW decisions. The rest of the book has given me concrete and clear ways to generate and implement NEW ideas. I'm anxious to bring these ideas to the people I work with and show them HOW they can be more creative (making my life much more interesting). One thing I really like is that it's a quick, easy, and enjoyable read. I know I'll be referring back to Rousing Creativity many times in the coming months!
