Excellent

This book was beautiful. The photos were great closeups of a variety of weaves done on a rigid heddle loom. Most weavers seem to think that a rigid heddle loom is too restrictive but the photos here prove different. Yarn and color can be great design tools. Enjoy.

A great book all around

This is an amazing and unique rigid heddle (and small homemade loom) weaving book. It contains a vast amount of information about weaving and also a variety of drawn illustrations and pictures. It also contains many beautiful photographs to help explain how colors create mood in your weaving, a feature that sets it apart from other crafty books. This book is so comprehensive. It discusses yarn types, yarn sizes, yarn calculations, warping methods, plain weave, creative techniques and embellishments like ways to end your weaving project and using a pickup stick to create different textures in your weaving, projects that you can follow exactly or get ideas that you can expand on with your own creativity, explainations of yarn types (like cotton, wool, etc) or recycled materials (like bags, etc) and how they can help your weaving, and an extensive glossary of terms. Being brand new to rigid heddle weaving, this book walked me through the process of making simple projects to creating my own more complicated projects. It's a very exciting book to add to a weaving library!

Lovely guide for rigid heddle weaving

Finally, a modern guide for the rigid heddle loom and weaving. This book is written in simple terms, has beautiful photos and a nice collection of projects.

Better than the manual!

This book was better than the manual that came with my loom for warping my Schacht Flip and Fold rigid heddle loom! The author has ties to Schacht which probably helped. It has some great ideas as well, but was worth its weight in gold for warping my loom which is more time consuming than the actual weaving...

Let Your Imagination Fly and Bust Your Stash!

At last, a book devoted to the rigid heddle or 2-shaft loom! This is not so much a "how-to" book about techniques as a "what if" and has suggestions rather than fabric recipes carved in stone. Each fabric illustrated takes advantage of a range of yarns, and shows how a simple plain weave can transform them into a unique work of art. The looms used are the rigid heddle loom, a cardboard loom and a stick loom, so you don't need any expensive equipment. Yarns used in these examples range from fleece and pre-dyed tops through to the feathers or lashes style yarns and the latest in "feral" yarns, and the effect is stunning! For many of them you only need less than a full ball to create highlights and colour contrasts so it takes advantage of all the bits and pieces left over from other projects. This is a book to dip into time and time again, and shows the possibilities that modern yarn styles open up to even the novice weaver. As the first part of the book shows how to warp up and weave on a loom, even a first timer can unleash their creativity, and a gallery section at the end shows examples of how the finished cloth can be used. It gives a fresh outlook to a traditional craft and brings it firmly into the 21st Century!
