This is a book my daughter and I very much enjoy reading together. The illustrations of the nighttime desert are beautiful, and we enjoy finding the rocks shaped like coyotes. The rhymes flow well, don't feel forced like some kids books. And the themes of music, nature, the changing of the seasons, and respect for all life leave me with a peaceful feeling. Make sure to really emphasise the yip, yi, and yo when the coyotes begin to sing :)

This book is a lovely story done in expressive, poetic form detailing all the characteristics of the individual desert animals. The pictures are striking, done in many of the warm desert colors. It is an enjoyable read that very easily creates imaginative pictures for both the reader and the listener, enhancing the rich illustrations.
