Outstanding & timeless!! Parents really need to read this!

This an Dr. Kunjufu's many other books are exceptional in the fact that he details the facts straight to the point. I enjoy his methods of writing without pullng any punches. I wish that I had read this before my son started grade school, but now he is in the 4th grade and he went from being placed in special education, to a 4.0 dean's list GPA. God bless the power of prayer and guidance. Anyone can change their situation. I also just finsihed my Associate in Business, and I am in my Bachelor's Degree program right now for Marketing. Of course I will go on to the Masters programs and Doctorates. Learn for life... "Please share a priceless thought through literature" "Give God the glory" Thank You Dr. Kunjufu

A Must Read

I bought this book about a year ago and it is very relevant to what is going on with our black boys today. Our black boys are falling behind and it is all around us. I enjoyed reading this book and hope that we can take a turn in the right direction for not only black boys but the black family in general.

An Honest No Punches Pulled Assessment ...

Dr Kunjufu is one of the few public voices speaking reasonably and honestly regarding the Mis-Education of the American black male child as a result of the inadequacies of the American Public Education system. The current system has been carelessly designed, poorly assessed, and inadequadetly held to account. The best possible education seems no longer to be the goal of the sytem; and creativity, flexibility and passion on the part of those that administrate and guide it is woefully missing. My apologies to those few caring souls (teachers and administrators) who are struggling against the very system in which they work, in order to make a tremendous difference in the lives of our American children; my prayers are with you and I exhort you to continue the battle, though frustrating it may be! We must heed the words of Dr Kunjufu and bring ethnic and gender sensitivity to the science of teaching and relevant practices that maximize overall learning. We must work to bring more well qualified African American males into the profession of teaching, and draw them into the inner city schools, compensate them well, encourage and uphold them, recognize and empower them. We should once again look seriously at single gender schools, or at least single gender programming within schools. It makes sense and it improves school performance. Thanks Dr Kunjufu for all your tremendous works!

Mandatory Reading for Parents!

There isn't much more for me to say about this book that hasn't already been discussed, but I'll add this: If you're serious about the future of your African American sons, brothers and male counterparts, you'll do well to read this book as it has VERY REAL examples that support its title. There are, however, two issues I have with this book. #1. It appears that the author has a prejudice against rap music, but later changes it to gangster rap. Let me just state that rap music does not cause black boys to be violent or become drop-outs as the many white boys who also listen to it continue to excel at school and avoid prison. Gangster rap, on the other hand, is another story as it feeds negative emotions and becomes subliminal with constant listening. #2. The author is fixated on his Christian religion. He implies that belief in God is somehow a necessary component in solving the problem. This is rather disappointing, because if the author hopes to convey his message to the entire black community, he needs to take other people's beliefs into consideration when offering his solutions. Not everyone believes in God, not everyone believes in your God and no God has been proven to be real. In any case, these two issues did not prevent me from finishing or enjoying this book. Hopefully, many others possess the same open-mindedness that I have.

Kunjufu: African American genius

In Reading Kunjufu's Countering the Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys, I think that the book REALLY does an excellent job in discussing the problems, and implementing solutions as to how we as a people can save our BLACK boys. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading, period. I especially THINK that all educators (teachers, prinicpals, etc.) should be required to read this book at least once duriing their lifetime.
