What happened to spirituality in 20th century psychology?

Most 20th century psychologists ignore or are even openly hostile to religion and spirituality, with the exception of William James, Richard Bucke and several others. This book looks at those psychologists and answers the question--how the soul became divorced from the psyche. A particularily fascinating story in the book is about the relationship of Richard Bucke and Walt Whitman. Fascinating reading!!! (Bucke was the author of the original book Comic Consciousness Revisited).
