Great book!

This book has put into words what I have always felt. Self esteem comes from within. It is not about the compliments others feed you. It comes from a knowledge of who you are, which can only be found when you build a relationship with your higher power. Excellent book.

"When your light flickers, blow it out!"

This is a soul-changing book that guides the reader to the heart's true desire: peace based upon love from and for God and for others. We learn here that we never can merit God's love and the good news is that we don't have to -- He loves us regardless. Through Christ's atonement, our complete commitment, and love, "then shall [our] confidence wax strong in the presence of God" (D & C 121:45) even though we don't merit it of ourselves. With this confidence, we can receive the gift of peace in our lives. This requires self-abasement, not self-esteem, to obtain because the source and focus is Him, not ourselves. "Man is that he might have joy" and the love of God is "the most joyous to the soul." So, "once you have felt your Savior's love for you, even in the smallest part, you will feel secure, and a love for Him and for your Heavenly Father will grow within you. (D. Todd Christensen, GenCon 4/04). There is a difference between feeling good about ourselves (self-esteem) and just feeling good, which comes from love and service. We live in a state of grace in this life: God's judgements will come later and He told us not to judge. Self-esteem is the false judgement now that we are good and to be esteemed. True and better is confidence before the Lord, dignity, and living the two great commandments: love God and love others. Life can be full of Scrooge-like joy by reveling in the miracle of God's forgiveness and acceptance, having confidence before the Lord (hence anywhere else), and giving our best efforts in self-less service of love. It was a great relief and internal at-one-ment to lay down the burden of trying to feel good about myself, "self-esteem," while so manifestly being riven with things not to feel good about. Sister Rasband's book teaches us how to obtain this peace.

Showing love to others = less concern about yourself

This book is wonderful! It talks about giving love and service to others and when you do that - you feel better about yourself. My sister read it as well and said it was the best thing for her. Totally what she needed to read! I highly recommend it!!! A great read!

WOW!

This book has shown me that it is not about me its about Him. By taking the focus off your "self- esteem" and focusing on the higher power, anything is possible.
