very helpful

This book was extremely helpful and easy to digest. I read a lot of books on writing and this is in the upper echelon.

This book rocks!

This is the most helpful book on writing that I've ever read. Period. Every time I read through it again, or page through to reread my highlighted sections, I'm amazed by the mixture of common sense, insight, alacrity and experience that fill every page. Noble's secrets on subtly and misdirection, finding ways to let scenes, storylines, and themes converge, and insights on character development, transitions, and story structure will improve the work of any author. Guaranteed. Whether you write for a living or as a hobby, your library of writing resources will never be complete without a copy of "Conflict, Action & Suspense." Highly recommended.

The Drama Loop

This is, quite possibly, the best book in the Elements of Writing Fiction series. The purpose of this book appears to be giving you an idea of how to create abstract opposites to further your story or novel. Please don't mistake it as a fiction band-aid: it's not. It may, however, get you through one of those boring middle sections by giving you ideas on what it is you need to fix to get your story running again. The book provides examples through the works of others, suggestions, and good explanations as to why the author is pushing his method. I thought the way he built on each topic was a little funny at first, but upon re-reading, I find the method actually serves to make his points better. All in all, I keep this on the desk where I write, for when I am stuck in one of those writing quagmires. A must-have!

True to the title a good resource

As he indicate by his title choice, William Noble has provided his readers with a resource to implement 'Conflict, Action & Suspense' in their works. This is obviously not a general 'how to write book' even though others have carelessly reviewed it that way. I found the book very useful in my first and subsequent works and recommend it to others when asked how they can make their fiction more engaging for their readers.

Fledging Suspense Story Writers -- Must Read!

I was looking for good, solid pointers on how to write a supsense novel, and this book did the trick. The writing in the books is concise, gets to the point without a lot pontificating by the author and samples for every point are provided that are easy to understand, and easy to recreate by any imaginative writer. I yellow-highlighted my book throughout, then went back and typed up the point notes. I'm going to use those point notes when I write my next suspense novel!Highly recommended reading for the aspiring writer.
