This book commences with the cloud in creation, functioning as a symbol of the trancendence of God and the means by which he creates, and continues with the descent of God in the cloud in making covenant with Abraham and Moses. Otto describes the cloud leading Israel out of Egypt and providing for her physically and spiritually, culminating in the great theophany on Sinai. The Old Testament section concludes with the hidden glory of God in the visions of Ezekial and Daniel which inform Jesus' talk of his secon advent. The New Testament section shows how the pre-incarnate Christis equal to the Father in glory.
