Every coach has his or her own reason for wanting to be a coach. After retiring from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Division of Prisons, Pierre D. Perry knew he had to do something to help the youth in his community. Being that Perry had been a pretty good high school basketball player and still had a love for the game, he decided to become a volunteer basketball coach. Remembering the positive affect his coaches had on his life, he felt he could do the same for the youth in his area. Mr. Perry uses his coaching opportunities to not only teach the game of basketball, but to also mentor the youth he comes in contact with. Every since 2015, Perry has coached for two recreational departments (winter and summer), and coaches a local travel basketball team. His goal is to create winners on and off the court.
