This collection of poems arises out of, and reflects, a time of multiple crises: climate, society, the individual, identity and politics. As such they are both engaged and personal, they are questioning and aware of the deep irreducible mystery that is life in a world of transience and uncertainty, where the pursuit of worn-out ideas is proving catastrophic at every level amidst the scientific-technological colonisation of humanity. The poems are elegiac, allusive yet direct, deeply felt and thought, filled with irony and despair, reflection and joy. They are transcendent in aspiration in the wreckage of materialist hollowing-out, and a poetry of the flat-lands which predominates. They are poems that, in their way, challenge the dominant ideology.
