When Cody and Trotsky met in school, they feel as if they have always known each other. An intesnse bond of friendship develops even though one is gay and the other is straight.
From all the reviews I had read and the buzz I had heard, Clicking Beat on the Brink of Nada was presented as a classic gay coming-of-age novel. And it is, indeed. Well-drawn and well-rounded characters, wonderfully penned text that brings the people and locales to life, and a story that, in the end, is beautiful, tender and, sadly, heartbreaking. Like all great coming-of-age novels, this one is authentic, true-to-life and honest. No gimmicks nor dramatic license. I really connected with the lead character, the teen boy with the humorous--and foretelling--name Trotsky. His trials with coming out, first love, and how his mother's political views affect him and his family are written with great care. I loved this book, indeed one of the best coming-of-age tales you will ever find.

Fantastic book I know have read more than five times since the first edition came out. It will make you smile, cry, give you a bit of red ears and... will make you love cody like you love the boy next door.
This book touches your heart, and stays in your memory.

This book beautifully captures a special time that every gay man goes through once in his life. Times that, more than usually ends in tragedy, like Trotsky's tragic end, but stays deep in our hearst and deep in our warmest memories, first love, first passion. This is a book that captures all of that in simple words, that make it readable for our youth. Who need beacons of light to get them out of the dark we all find ourselves in once in our lives. When I thought I was the only one, this book, awoke me and helped me get to my new life, as a proud homosexual.
A classic.

This is the most down-to-earth novel involving gay characters that I've ever read. I loved it, and fell in love with both Trotsky and Cody, as well as a couple of the minor characters. I couldn't stop reading and didn't want it to end.
