This story is the sequel to The Codes of Classic Rock. Action picks up at the point the prior novel ends. Andy and Angeline Morris have come to the scene of a shootout and found her twin sister, Ariella with a serious belly wound. They follow Ariella's instructions and make the scene look like two men had emptied their pistols inflicting multiple and fatal wounds. So begins the cover up of who the real assassin is. But things aren't so easy. Angeline is joined in the investigation and two veteran detectives have big problems reconciling the evidence with the scenario she has tried to create. The angles don't work. The dead men's bodies aren't even closely aligned with the line-of-sight and it is hard to understand how either could have continued firing a pistol given the large number of shots each sustained. Angeline has to develop some imaginative explanations. Forensics and the coroner's report reveal a stunning surprise. Unbeknown to Angeline, a third party was at the scene, fired a rifle and killed one of the men, a mafia enforced, Sergio Barsetti. This revelation presents Angeline with several highly desired explanations. Barsetti's body aligns with where the rifleman took their shot, thereby resolving part of the inconsistency in the evidence. More significantly, Angeline now has someone to pin all the assaults and murders on, thereby shielding her sister.
